Feminism, Empowerment, and Self-Love

via Blogger Takes Off Her Makeup To Reveal The Ugly Truth About Online Harassment.

This isn’t just about people trolling.  This isn’t about judging some woman because she chooses to wear makeup.

What it is about is pointing out – YET AGAIN – that we are all, in some way, beautiful.  That we, regardless of what others say, need to be able to look at ourselves and be happy.  We need to be able to look into that mirror and respect ourselves.

It’s not about “mean girls.”  It’s about an entire society that tells people – male or female – that they can NEVER be enough.  That they can’t be good enough, pretty enough, buff enough, smart enough, or simply just ENOUGH.

I have adult acne myself.  Not as badly as this woman does, but I get it often enough.  I also have cystic acne on other parts of my body.  It’s not about lacking in good hygiene.  It’s not about “not taking care of ourselves.”  It’s about the fact that there are SOME things that our genetics gives us that aren’t a blessing.

She is NOT ugly.  She is NOT disgusting.  And she is NOT false advertising.  She is a beautiful woman, with or without makeup.

And let me say this while shouting: WOMEN WEAR MAKEUP FOR OUR OWN SENSE OF CONFIDENCE, NOT FOR SOMEONE ELSE.
